Ottery St Mary

Ottery St Mary is a small but thriving town conveniently situated between Exeter (12 miles to the West) and Honiton (6 miles to the East).

The coast is within easy driving distance, where the picturesque towns of Sidmouth, Beer and Seaton can be found. Exeter International airport is a ten minute drive away, and the main line stations at nearby Whimple or Exeter provide fast services to London. Road access to the M5 and A303 has been enhanced recently by the opening of the new A30, which is about a 5 minute drive from Ottery.

Ottery St Mary has many historic traditions, including the annual pixie’s day and the famous tar barrel rolling, held on Guy Fawkes night each year. There have been a number of famous residents of Ottery in the past, including the poet Coleridge, the author Thackeray, Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh. The parish church, which was built in the 14th century is modelled on Exeter Cathedral and is thus a very splendid and important looking church for a small town.

Facilities in the town include a modern cottage hospital, a health centre, fantastic sports centre, a wide and interesting variety of shops and The King’s School, which has recently been awarded sports college status.
