Shaldon is a quaint,
unspoilt and picturesque village situated at the mouth of the River Teign in
South Devon.
This vibrant and thriving community is home to a wide range of local shops
as well as a very successful primary school, a number of cafes and pubs, a Post
Office and a doctor’s surgery. The strong sense of community in the village
is evident from the wide variety of the many events taking place throughout
the year. These include the Water Carnival, the nine day long Shaldon Regatta
and the superb Music Festival.
In the heart of the village is the green, the venue for the Georgian Market
that takes place every week during summer, and also the immaculate bowling green.
Golfers have the choice of two courses close by, with the splendid 18-hole
course high up on the hills above Teignmouth, and a picturesque course in Shaldon.
There is no shortage of venues for eating and drinking - from the smallest
teashops and cafes to a large number of pubs and restaurants, there is an informal
or formal eating experience to suit everyone.
With rolling countryside to the south and west, sea and river to the north
and east, Shaldon really does have it all. Whether your chosen leisure activities
are land or water based, there is something for everyone. Sailing, canoeing,
fishing, water skiing, rowing, swimming or just building sandcastles; all of
these can be experienced within minutes of Oystercatcher Court. For the walkers
and ramblers, there is the superb coastal path - part of the South West Way
- within easy reach, and of course the wide expanses of Dartmoor are a short
drive away. For those of a less active nature, it is a level walk from Oystercatcher
Court to the beach, from where hours can be idly whiled away watching the boats
coming in and out of the harbour, or marvelling at the awe inspiring passage
of the ships bringing their cargo into Teignmouth docks.
