May Chsw Hospice Week Bake Sale

On your marks, get set… bake! Charity bake sale takes place across Devonshire Homes’ offices

31 May 2017

Staff from the Devonshire Homes’ Head Office and three of their new homes sites across Devon, took part in a bake sale to raise money for their chosen charity of the year, Children’s Hospice South West.

To celebrate the national awareness week, Children’s Hospice Week, staff were encouraged to bring in a selection of home baked (or shop bought!) goodies that their colleagues could purchase in order to raise funds for the Children’s Hospice South West.  With an impressive array of cakes donated, the cake bake sale took place on 26th May and raised over £2,200 for the charity.

Devonshire Homes chose Children’s Hospice South West as their charity partner earlier this year and the cake bake sale is one of a number of activities the Westcountry housebuilder has undertaken in it’s bid to help raise a target of £10,000.  Devonshire Homes is also donating £50 to the charity for every open-market sale during the year.  And committed staff at Devonshire Homes have already signed up to a variety of fundraising events including sponsored sky dives, cycle challenges, distance runs and coffee mornings.    Residents at Devonshire Homes’ Westaway Reach development in Barnstaple have also shown their support raising more more than £260 in a recent silent auction for plants.

The charity, based in North Devon, supports and cares for both children with life-limiting conditions and their families. They provide vital respite and short breaks, emergency care, palliative care and end of life care. Its work ensures that children who will not reach adulthood, have access to a safe, happy and relaxing space that allows them to get all the help and support they need. The charity provides three hospices across the South West which feature child friendly bedrooms with minimal medical equipment that are decorated with books, toys and DVD’s for each child who stays. This vital support extends to the whole family, into bereavement and beyond for as long as the family needs.

Sales and Marketing Director, Jane Pearce, commented: “We’ve enjoyed the first few events raising money for Children’s Hospice South West but of course a bake sale with sweet treats is always popular! As our chosen charity of the year we plan to continue raising vital funds for this very worthy cause as often as we can.

“We have five developments across Devon and this provides us with plenty of locations to host fundraising activities for the charity and help profile the vital support they provide in the region.”

Naomi Dymond, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser, commented: “It’s great to see staff at Devonshire Homes’ getting behind us. We’re so happy to be their Charity of the Year because we rely almost entirely on the support of the community to keep our services running. So, without the Devonshire Homes team and the fundraising they are doing, we simply couldn’t continue to be there for the children and families who need us the most. Thank you so much, from us all!”
