Health and Safety success

Devonshire Homes are delighted to announce that Site Manager Nick Bateman has been successful at the NHBC Health and Safety awards.

Nick, Site Manager of the award winning Moorhayes Park in Tiverton was commended, highly commended and was awarded the Regional Winner, for the South.  The NHBC, leading standard setting and consumer protection body for new homes in the UK, launched the national Health & Safety Awards in November 2009.

The awards, supported by the Health and Safety Executive, Construction Skills and Constructing Better Health, have received widespread support from MP's of all political parties.  History has shown that the emergence from a recession is often coupled with a rise in the number of accidents on-site.  These awards offer builders the opportunity to gain independent verification of the effectiveness of their health and safety practices.

Paul Land, Managing Director of Devonshire Homes said "We are absolutely delighted that Nick has been given these awards.  Health and Safety lies at the very heart of our sit's development and is integral to achieving quality on-site.  As part of our commitment to health and safety, we have heavily invested resource and time into improvements, and are therefore very proud to be recognised in this way"

NHBC's Head of Health and Safety, Simon Mantle, commented: "As the house-building industry emerges from a difficult economic period, it's the perfect time to recognise site managers who have maintained exceptional health and safety standards on-site.

"We have been extremely impressed by the standard of health and safety that we have encountered throughout the judging process.  These awards play an important role in encouraging best practice and driving forward health and safety standards.  Ultimately, improvements in best practice have the added benefit of improving the end product for home-owners too"  For further information on the NHBC Health and Safety Awards visit www.nhbc.co.uk/hsawards

The success of the Health and Safety Awards follows on from Nick's previous awards for the NHBC 'Pride in the Job' competition.  He holds Quality Awards for 2008, 2009 & 2010; Seal of Execellence awards for 2008, 2009 & 2010; was a Regional Winner in 2008 & 2009 and was the UK finalist in 2008 & 2009.  The Pride in the Job was set up 30 years ago to seek the UK's best Site Managers.  The drive for quality is at the heart of the NHBC's 'Pride in the Job' and is an integral part of it's role in helping to raise the standards for new homes buyers.  Nick has proved his calibre by being the Regional winner twice; gaining the Seal of Excellence awards three years running and holding six quality awards over the 30 years of competition
